The Atlas Fitness Center was opened in fall 1982, originally as the Atlas Gym. It was located in the heart of Española on Riverside Drive (adjacent to Burger King). In 1984, the gym had to move to a tiny 400 sq. ft. building in El Llano near the Española Valley High School. The Atlas had around 25 members from 1984-85. In 1985, another move - this time downtown, off of Oñate Street, next to Block Salazar Mortuary. The gym stayed there until 1990, when, yes, you guessed it - yet another location. From 1990-1998 the gym was located in the Fairview Shopping Center behind the Box Pack and Mail. In the spring of 1998, the fitness center finally found a home! 
Thanks to a collaborative effort between the City of Española, Century Bank of Santa Fe, and NM Revolving Loan Fund, the Atlas moved to a premier location - the Industrial Park. The current site boasts 7,000 sq. ft. of workout area, overlooks the city, has plenty of room for parking, walking/running areas, and the most spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range imaginable. The Atlas Fitness Center celebrated its 25 year anniversary in Española in October 2007. Thanks goes out to all the faithful members who have supported the business, through the moves and transitions.
